Rap Radar - 5 Projects You Should Hear

By @Lesiba on 08/16/2021 in Projects You Should Hear

Not so long ago I did an R&B radar with 5 projects I felt you should check out. So It's only right that I make a rap radar with 5 rap projects that I think you should check out. The projects are in no particular order.

@TysonSYBATELI - Dulce

I wasn't really familiar with Tyson before this album. He has one of the most unique cadences I've heard in a while and it left a lasting impression on me. It makes the album really memorable but the production and storytelling are top tier. I think it's kind of crazy that we are blessed to know independent artists who are producing music of such high quality. Click here to read the article I wrote about 'Dulce'.

@itsmesipho x @PapaHeight - DO FOR LOVE

Soulful rap albums are so difficult to get right and what Sipho The Gift and Papa Height did on 'DO FOR LOVE' was incredible. The story of 'DO FOR LOVE' flows really well. The changes in the mood of the production for each part of the love story Sipho is telling is something that I appreciate. I love listening to music that has a theme and unique sonic footprint. Amazing work.

@BesaPharaoh - In Tomb

The man that hails from the only park you can't play in. For those that don't know, I'n Tomb' is split into Side A and Side B. 'In Tomb' is a multi-layered piece of work that sees Besa Pharaoh touch on so many different aspects of his life. Out of all of the projects on this list, I think that In Tomb has the best story. It's literally the perfect introduction to Besa Pharoah. You walk away from 'In Tomb' with a very clear picture of who Besa Pharaoh is. Click here to read the article I wrote about 'In Tomb'.

@Hueymagicman - smmr;grace

Huey the magic man aka Malume Flow. Huey is like a chameleon in the sense that he has the unique ability to change his flow to mesh perfectly with the production. His ability to do this at such a high level is what separates him from a lot of other rappers. When it comes to the project itself, it's probably the best-told story on this list with a very clear beginning, middle and end. Click here to read the article I did on 'summr;grace'.

@MajorBagMizzy_ - WE GON' BE GOOD

Of all of the projects that are on this list, 'WE GON' BE GOOD', is the one that has grown on me the most. I think it's a good thing that you don't immediately fall in love with a piece of work because it means you have to take time to understand it. The replay value of 'WE GON' BE GOOD' is its most unique trait. I can listen to this project no matter my mood. It has this endearing quality that I can't quite describe. Just listen to it and you'll see what I mean. Click here to read the article I wrote about 'WE GON BE GOOD'.
