I am really impressed with Isaac... I mean Huey. I wasn't familiar with his work before summr;grace but after watching the music video for 'time of my life', I was extremely excited to hear the rest of the project.
summr;grace is a love story that doesn't have a pleasant ending for Huey. He did a great job of telling this love story and we've all heard love stories before but what separates Huey is his execution. He was very deliberate with the tracklisting and Huey's storytelling ability is impressive. summr;grace is well thought out and I love the skits at appropriate moments throughout the project. He knew what story he wanted to tell and as obvious as it seems, artists struggle to tell a clear story that has a beginning, middle and end. I love the clarity in Huey's music. Sonically, Huey's sound can be described as smooth. When I heard him on Money Buying Money by Miles, that's when I realised that Huey has an incredible ability to find the perfect flow for any song. When a rapper can change their flow to match the production, as well as Huey, you tend to forget that the only voice you've been listening to for all 20 minutes is his. It's rare to find an artist that delivers hooks and well-crafted verses at the proficiency that Huey does. Huey has a great sense of balance. He found the perfect blend between flow and delivery. The project feels complete and not a single minute was wasted. Huey feels more like a vet than a newcomer and I can already tell that smmr;grace will stand the test of time. And is it just me or does Grace sound familiar? Anyway stream smmr;grace below.
