In a recent episode of My Audio Journal with Pamela Mtanga on YouTube, Nasty C shared that one of the biggest highlights of his career has been his relationship with American rapper T.I.
Reflecting on his career highlights rankings, Nasty C stated, “Number one has to be the whole T.I thing cause he’s the reason I started music, now he’s a fan of mine, we’ve met, we’ve built a relationship, I could call this guy right now, his son is also a friend of mine right now, I’ve built a relationship with his son, I’ve brought him here to South Africa for a tour, he was here for about a month.”
Nasty C continued to detail the ways in which T.I has supported him professionally. “I went to Atlanta to do a launch for my album and T.I basically lent me his venue, he was just like ‘yeah, use my traphouse,’ the legendary traphouse, he was like ‘yeah do it here’ so that’s crazy, that’s just like insane,” he said.
He also spoke about the skepticism he faced in the past when he expressed his ambition to collaborate with T.I. “When I used to speak about like making songs with him one day, people would call me crazy,” Nasty C recalled. He added that achieving this milestone required determination. “All it took was like hard work, patience and just keeping my head down and focusing,” he explained.
Regarding their first meeting, Nasty C described the moment as extraordinary. “Meeting T.I for the first was insane, him telling me that he knows my music and he knows my story is crazy,” he shared. He also recounted T.I’s initial visit to South Africa. “He told me about just when he was down here in South Africa, I think it might’ve been his first time coming here to do something other than performing, he was here shooting that movie in Cape Town,” Nasty C said.
Nasty C further explained how T.I first discovered him. “That’s the story he told me where he just heard my name up hunch, heard me on the radio where he was like ‘yoh, who’s this kid, he doesn’t even sound like he’s from here, what is happening?’ He only reached out when he was gone,” he said.
He concluded by reflecting on the influence T.I has had on his life and music. “He’s actually the reason I started rapping in the first place, my first memory of music ever paying attention to music was because of T.I,” Nasty C noted.
For Nasty C, the relationship with T.I represents more than just a professional milestone. It symbolizes the fulfillment of a dream that began with admiration and grew into a personal and professional bond. Through hard work and persistence, Nasty C not only earned T.I’s respect but also formed a meaningful connection that continues to influence his career and personal life.
