@Abeluw_sa Reflects On The Matters Of The Heart In Her Debut EP Titled 'MIRROR'

By @OfentsePhukubye on 01/24/2023 in Projects You Should Hear

Born Luvuyo Hadebe is RnB singer and songwriter, Abeluw of whom hails from the soils of KZN. The songstress makes her debut with her first ever body of work titled, 'MIRROR'. The 5 track EP showcases a variety of sounds from your Afro-pop to RnB as well as House. Each single stands out in its own form as they all represent different elements of love.

I first listened to the EP in the morning before I started my day and I was highly impressed as the sound and production complimented the art she was aiming at creating and sharing with the rest of the world. It really stood out for me as I couldn't believe what I was hearing. She sampled African sounds from your favourite Brenda Fassie's 'Vul'indlela' in her single 'Not Alone' to the subtle hand drums.

Abeluw opened up the EP with a song titled 'Good to you' that touches on a potential partner that she is highly invested in as they show the qualities she is looking for in a partner. Abeluw further expands the track with all the promises to the potential partner and how she has made space for them in her heart. It is wonderful intro as it sets the mood for the EP.

'Busiswa' Featuring Kila G and Tshilibas is Track 2 on the EP and it infuses the rootful african sounds with a subtle house beat and it simply touches on the gratitude of their partner's love as it is the core reason they are able to be at peace and love freely as there is nobody that can currently make them feel the way they feel aside of the partners.

'CMPLT ME' is Track 3 on the EP and sets a more celebratory tone as the instrumental has a bit of Amapiano and Deep House infused into it. The single simply touches on her asking her lover to complete by simply showing her how much they love her and the extent they are willing to take the relationship to. One could swear she is referring to marriage as uses the lines in one of the bridging verse '...your love is all I need'.

'Not Alone' is my favourite track on the EP as it touches on how unity in a relationship is need even in the darkness and difficult moments. She would rather go through those rocky moments with you than run away. It also serves as a motivator for one to not give up on their dreams even when things get difficult as life is not moulded to be easy and we are all walking various journeys so it is key for us to be stay strong and pray as much as we can. This is all I could grasp from the song, message wise. It is a very beautiful single as is it speaks to one from the soul.

Abeluw then concludes the EP with the last track, 'Good to you (Stripped)'. It is a more of an acoustic version of the first single of which will have you to feel more of the notes and harmonies as she aims for you to connect with the message and without a doubt the Piano keys made it to easy for us to hear the message quite clearly.

She has worked very hard as I am left mind blown by her debut EP and I cannot wait to hear more work from her this year. This is definitely a must check out if you want to be in your feelings and thoughts at the same time. Amazing piece of work once again.
