Airpic-M Got The Keys In New Mixtape ‘Istixo SaseKapa’

Cape Town rapper, songwriter and producer Airpic-M releases a new mixtape to let the streets know he’s got the keys. He raps on the song ‘Istixo’, “Ndipheth’ istixo/ Senz’ umlingo”. Breaking down the title, the Gugulethu-born artist told SlikourOnlife: “The title of the mixtape is inspired by the achievements that I’ve acquired in his musical journey to inspire and open doors for the youth in and around the city.”

‘Istixo SaseKapa’ is predominantly Xhosa trap, and Airpic-M applies auto-tune to his vocals which goes well with the beats he picked. 

Features on ‘Istixo SaseKapa’ range from emerging artists such as HefeCPT, Sile and $LIMBEATS to well-known names in Cape Town street rap; Phresh Clique, Soul T Idyan and Bravo Le Roux. The latter is featured on the project’s lead single ‘Emafini’ which was, in May, treated to visuals that showcases Cape Town street culture and shows both familiar faces and the ordinary people of Gux. 

Cape Town street rap pioneer Amilca Mezarati, who has since bowed out of rap, appears on ‘Shay'Nyuku’, the closing song of ‘Istixo SaseKapa’. “I remember back in 2016 wanting to work with Amilca so badly to a point where I'd attend his shows to get him acquainted with me as an up-and-coming rapper,” Airpic-M says. “I eventually managed to get his cellphone number from him backstage, after his performance at a show that was happening in Langa. I saved it and never texted him until he called me last December saying he wanted to pay me a visit at my place at the CBD to bless me with his last verse. The rest is history.”

Airpic-M has been on the grind; starting out in the game in 2010, he has worked with some of Cape Town’s finest such as Pyro beats, Siphe Tebeka, Planet Earth and Kosh among others and has released the mixtapes ‘Sheilason’, ‘Upper Echelon’ and ‘Gugs Kid Gone Bad’. He remains consistent as he drops his latest body of work ‘Istixo SaseKapa’.
