3 Digital Marketing Tips For Artists

By @Lesiba on 10/13/2021 in Article

In life, you can't be gifted at everything and some things will come more naturally than others. I've come across a lot of talented artists, some by chance and others are friends, and they simply don't know how to 'push' or market themselves. One thing I've noticed that they all complain about is that people follow 'clout' or people only listen to people with a following. Well, that's true but the mistake they make is thinking that this is unique to music. So I'm here to give you a few tips to those artists who don't know where to start when it comes to promoting themselves.

Be Unique On Social Media

This is the most obvious place to start but I wanted to share some things I have noticed by other artists. Artists are using things like IG reels and TikTok to show their personalities. This helps you connect with your audience on a genuine level, so show people what you're interested in or your unique sense of humor.

Electronic Press Kit (EPK)

An electronic press kit includes a short bio about yourself. It doesn't have to be an essay but more along the lines of something a writer could use in the first line of an article about you. Your press kit should include links to your latest music and most importantly, pictures of yourself that a blogger could use. If you have any quotes about your music this is also the place to include it. Include links to your social media profiles as well as the platforms where your music is available. I found this site where you can build your own press kit for free, click here to check it out.

Pitch Your Music To Blogs & Playlist Curators

I wrote an article on how you can pitch your music to Spotify, click here to check it out. I understand that sending emails to big publications can be a tedious task and you don't always get a response, which is normal. You should also pitch your music to smaller blogs and publications because at the end of the day you want to build a network of people who support you. So maybe your efforts might be better utilised at pitching your music to 10 smaller blogs where you stand a better chance at getting noticed.
