First Impressions of @SpunkyGalaxy's 'Wndr Lnd'

By @Lesiba on 08/20/2021 in Projects You Should Hear

Spunky Galaxy just released 'Wndr Lnd' which is the follow up to his 2019 release titled 'Fntsy Lnd'. Spunky Galaxy has grown and progressed with 'Wndr Lnd' which sees him expand on his sonic imprint and touch on more personal issues. It is always interesting to see how an artist challenges themselves to experiment with sounds that they haven't executed before. I was particularly surprised with the 4 songs that follow 'Parachute(Interlude)'. These songs see Spunky Galaxy explore his softer side in his continued attempt to appeal to a different audience. I think that the song 'Be Together' is something I didn't see coming from him, whereas 'Same Way' and 'My Feelings' have a more R&B feel which aren't too far from his comfort zone. I particularly enjoyed 'Same way' because I feel like he hit the sweet spot for his voice. It doesn't stretch his vocals too much but still allows him to explore a different delivery. I think that Spunky Galaxy is at his best on 'Zone'. The trap soul inspired production allows him the space to deliver a variety of flows and cadences. The first portion of the song has a really smooth sing rap melody to it and then it's followed by my favourite vocal performance by him when he sings in a much higher pitch. I thought what he did there was really elite. The album only has two features in Khenji and Maarly. I really enjoyed Maarly's feature on 'Used To'. She brought a different energy to the song and this was the first time I had heard her on production like that. Ultimately, 'Wndr Lnd' is a deeply personal and versatile album. Stream 'Wndr Lnd' below.
