Music is as international as McDonald's and the work of US-based rappers and hitmakers is no different. Over the past few weeks, musicians have collaborated and dropped a number of albums for the public to enjoy. Below, we've listed a few worth adding to your library.
Megan Thee Stallion
Megan Thee Stallion is a brilliant addition to the list of female MCs in hip-hop. For many, Megan came to the spotlight with "STALLI FREESTYLE." Since then the hip-hop community in the US has had no choice but to pay attention to her. Recently, she dropped Fever, a 14-track debut album. Her brand of rap is unapologetically sexy rampant with pristine wordplay. Subject matter wise, Megan's music is for people who rate themselves highly.
Schoolboy Q
Schoolboy Q dropped Oxymoron back in 2014 and after that, he graced the world with the 2016 LP, Blank Face. Both have aged nicely, but now fans have a new body of work to consume, CrasH Talk. Schoolboy has been open about how the passing of his friend and confidant, Mac Miller, impacted him. CrasH Talk maintains that LA vibe that we know the TDE rapper for. Celebrating Schoolboy Q's pen anymore would be like lighting birthday candles for a second time after they've been blown out once before. However, we will persist, because the man is simply that good.
Logic
"So we're rapping rapping," is a question I once heard posed by someone blown away by another musician's flows. One can only think the same thing once you press play on track one of Logic's 2019 joint, Confessions of a Dangerous Mind. Wordplay is nothing to be surprised by from this particular rapper, however, it's always a treat to hear him go. In this 55-minute, 16-track album, Logic is joined by a star-studded features list including Wiz Khalifa, Gucci Mane, Eminem, and more.
Tyler, The Creator
Upon the first listen of IGOR, listeners can spot the influences from the likes of Pharell, Kid Cudi, and that overall school of music. For many, listening to Tyler is a double-edged sword on account of his statements in the past. At the same time, it would be unfair not to note the changes and maturity, although that may not be the perfect word to use, that he has displayed in his lyricism and public commentary over the years. However, with this 2019 body of work, the rapper has presented a musical, fun, and overall engaging piece of work...even for someone who may not have already been a fan.
DJ Khaled
Father of Asahd is Khaled's double entendre eleventh studio album. Forever proud of his son, Khaled has brought artists together once again for his collaborative style of album making. One track we knew already, being "Top Off" with Future, Jay-Z, and Beyoncé and now fans have new collaborations to entertain themselves. Dancehall lovers who were happy when Buju Banton was finally released from prison, will be happy to see him joined by Mavado, Sizzla, and 070 Shake as the opening collaborators for Khaled's album. Additionally, Nipsey Hussle fans will be joyed to hear the fallen rapper featuring on a track with John Legend, a song created shortly before his untimely demise.
