South African rapper iFani has spoken publicly about A-Reece’s most recent project, Business As Usual, describing the EP as a work that requires time and attention to fully grasp. His comments were shared via a detailed reflection on a Facebook post, where he outlined how his perception of the project changed after several weeks of listening.

According to iFani, his initial approach to the EP was shaped by a search for mainstream appeal and radio-friendly singles. However, he later realised the project was not intended for mass consumption.

“It took me a couple of weeks to understand this project,” he stated. “I was looking for hits, I was looking for lento ifunwa ngumntu wonke. But this is not for umntu wonke. This is VIP section.”

The artist went on to commend A-Reece for his musical approach, describing the EP as refined and crafted with intent. Using a coffee analogy, iFani compared the EP to espresso, a choice meant to highlight its complexity and niche appeal.

“Ricoffy sells more eMzantsi than espresso. But those who understand coffee know that there’s a craft to espresso,” he wrote. “Le laytie is a craftsman. A smooth, calculated and complex craftsman.”

iFani also highlighted several tracks from the project, including Scented Candles, So Much featuring Kwazi, and Solo Interlude, noting how the transitions between songs contribute to the mood of the overall project. He drew attention to the structure of the EP, specifically its use of minimalism and silence as deliberate creative choices.

“Silence is as powerful as long verses: only a few get this. The Boy delivered silence in music form.”

He further differentiated A-Reece from other South African hip-hop artists, stating that comparisons to mainstream rappers may not be appropriate due to the differing nature of their musical output.

“Nasty is like the best Hennessy, he’s X.O. Reece is a Macallan 81-year-old. Only a few know about it. And those who know, know the price.”

Concluding his remarks, iFani described Business As Usual as a cohesive project made up of nine tracks, which he now plays in full and on repeat. He described it as one of two standout releases for the year, alongside the latest project from American rap duo Clipse.
