Sjava Reflects on Creativity, Culture, and Collaboration at Intimate ‘INkanyezi NeziNkanyezi’ Listening Session

At a private listening session held ahead of the release of his forthcoming album INkanyezi NeziNkanyezi, Sjava offered insight into the ideas, experiences, and conversations that shaped the project. The event brought together a small audience of media and industry figures, providing space for the artist to discuss both the music and the broader themes surrounding it.

During the session, Sjava spoke about the promotional video created to accompany the album rollout. He explained that the video featured his niece. Sjava also addressed the track “Xigubu,” using the conversation to clarify the message behind the song. He stated that the track was intended to challenge common perceptions about Zulu people, particularly the idea that they are arrogant or unapproachable.

He explained that the song highlights coexistence and emphasizes that different tribes are capable of understanding and working well with one another.

Another topic discussed was the influence of fellow artist Emtee. Sjava credited Emtee with inspiring him to be more multilingual in his music. He recalled Emtee once saying, “He’s the only guy I know who can do a verse in Xhosa, Zulu, English and others.” Sjava noted that this encouragement pushed him to embrace language diversity more confidently across his tracks.

Sjava shared his thoughts on artificial intelligence, describing it as an area he is open to understanding better. “It’s something that I personally am willing to learn more about,” he said, without elaborating further.
