Nigerian Hip-Hop Duo Show Dem Camp Use Sound As Memory In New Album “Afrika Magik”

Nigerian Hip-Hop duo Show Dem Camp’s new album “Afrika Magik” extends the duo’s role as cultural archivists as much as musicians. The project draws on palm wine and highlife traditions. Warm guitar lines and steady, unhurried percussion form the album’s backbone, giving it a grounded feel even as it blends R&B, neo-soul, Afrobeats and occasional Amapiano rhythms.

Collaboration remains central to SDC’s ecosystem. Features from Tems, Moonchild Sanelly, BOJ, Ajebutter 22, Moelogo and others function as different emotional registers within the same world. Each guest expands the landscape, shifting between intimacy, reflection, joy and softness, reinforcing the album’s themes without overshadowing its core.

Lyrically, the duo stay close to their familiar modes, documenting Lagos life, love, growth and the subtle negotiations of adulthood. There’s a calm confidence here, the sense of artists who know exactly where they stand and what histories they’re drawing from.

The skits on the album are reflections on Nollywood, which inspired the album’s title. Africa Magic is the DSTV channel that played a role in popularising Nollywood movies in the 2000s.
