South African rapper Loki has released a new freestyle titled “Okay Whatever Let’s Rap”, following his recent appearance on the hip-hop radio show 5 Hip Hop Nights with DJ Speedsta. The freestyle arrives shortly after a moment during the interview where Speedsta, in the middle of a conversation with Loki, casually said the phrase that would go on to become the freestyle’s title.
During the episode, DJ Speedsta engaged Loki in a free-flowing discussion that touched on music, career progression, and creative influences. In the midst of their exchange, Speedsta remarked, “Okay, whatever, let’s rap,” before lining up multiple beats for Loki to freestyle over live on the show. Loki accepted the challenge and delivered impromptu verses over a series of diverse instrumentals, demonstrating his versatility and command of rhythm.
The performance on 5 Hip Hop Nights gained attention for its spontaneity and showcased Loki’s ability to adapt quickly to different beat styles. However, rather than ending the moment on-air, Loki extended the energy of the session by recording and releasing a freestyle inspired directly by that experience. Titled after Speedsta’s off-the-cuff remark, “Okay Whatever Let’s Rap” was dropped soon after the show aired.
In the freestyle, Loki remains unfiltered and direct, with minimal post-production polish, keeping the freestyle true to its origin. It reflects the improvisational essence of the original radio moment while giving listeners a more refined version of his lyrical response.
Loki’s delivery in the freestyle maintains consistency, reinforcing the technical strengths he demonstrated during the radio appearance.
The release has drawn attention on social platforms and among local hip-hop audiences for its raw execution and the quick turnaround from concept to recording. While Loki has previously been recognized for structured releases, “Okay Whatever Let’s Rap” leans into spontaneity, rooted entirely in a real-time exchange between artist and host.
The freestyle stands as a snapshot of a moment turned into music, linking broadcast interaction and studio output. It reflects both the improvisational culture of hip-hop and Loki’s ability to respond creatively and quickly to the moment.
