Legends Barber founder and CEO Sheldon Tatchell has publicly expressed his intention to support the return of CottonFest following the recent announcement that the event has come to an end. CottonFest, founded in 2019 by the late rapper Riky Rick, has been recognised as a platform that brings together music, fashion, and youth culture in South Africa. The festival has featured a diverse range of performers and has played a notable role in elevating young and emerging talent.

After news of the festival’s conclusion circulated, Tatchell released a statement addressing the significance of CottonFest and the impact it has had on young people across the country. He stated that the festival’s influence and purpose could not be overlooked. “CottonFest can’t end like this — not when it has meant so much to the youth of South Africa,” he said.

Tatchell confirmed that he is prepared to contribute financially and offer practical support toward reviving the event. “So today, I’m putting my hand up. Ready to invest, ready to support Bianca, and to help bring CottonFest back to life,” he said, referring to Bianca Naidoo, who has overseen the festival’s continuation following Riky Rick’s passing in 2022.

The festival, originally established by Riky Rick as a space that merges music and street culture, grew into a multi-stage event featuring established and up-and-coming performers. It became known for prioritising collaboration and providing opportunities for young creatives. Since its inception, CottonFest has been recognised for drawing large audiences and contributing to the visibility of South African youth culture.

Tatchell emphasised that the movement surrounding the festival should continue. “Some movements are too important to let die,” he said. He concluded his message with, “We never die. We multiply,” a phrase often associated with Riky Rick and the community built around his work.

While no formal plans for the festival’s return have been confirmed, Tatchell’s public offer marks a significant development following the announcement of CottonFest’s end. His statement signals a willingness to collaborate with the festival’s leadership to explore options for its revival.

Further updates regarding discussions, potential partnerships, or the future structure of the event have not yet been released. The CottonFest team has also not issued additional comment at the time of writing.
