Danny K, a familiar name in South Africa’s pop and R&B landscape, has spent years building a catalogue shaped by collaboration, growth and an openness that has carried him through different chapters of his career. In a recent Instagram post, Danny K shared a personal reflection on the impact Mandoza had on him, revealing how their differences became a foundation for a meaningful creative connection. He expressed how he had long admired Mandoza, he shared that “Working with Mduduzi Tshabalala, better known as Mandoza, changed me in ways I only understood years later. We came from different worlds and tried to turn that difference into strength. I was intimidated and scared, and I was a fan long before I was a collaborator. I held onto the dream of recording a song with him.”

He went on to explain how their partnership became possible when Coca-Cola launched its first Collab project, creating an opening for him to request a collaboration with the celebrated Kwaito star. He wrote: “The opportunity arrived when Coca-Cola launched the first Collab project and I asked to work with Mandoza. The song would be called “Music,” produced by @peteboxstamartin and Kwaito producer David Campos, known as D-REX. That song started a five-year run of touring, recording, and friendship. The work we did together led to a SAMA for the album we recorded together, Same Difference.”

Their collaboration not only cemented a meaningful partnership but created music that resonated with listeners across genres and backgrounds. It was a union built on respect, curiosity and a willingness to cross creative borders, leaving behind a catalogue that continues to be cherished. The album Kollection gathers Danny K’s greatest hits for the first time his been in the music industry and includes a few new surprises.

As Danny K revisits his catalogue with the upcoming release of Kollection, arriving on 28 November, he notes that the project will include songs from Same Difference, further honouring the chapter he shared with Mandoza. The announcement arrives as both a tribute and a reminder of the impact created when artists bring their worlds together with sincerity and purpose.
