BENZA has publicly responded to claims made by Cassper Nyovest regarding the origins of AKA’s song Sim Dope. In a direct reply shared via social media, the Vth Season executive stated, “Okay, I will correct you. You are wrong… The only thing I can confirm is that you were almost signed by BENZA.” Benza’s statement comes after Cassper, in an episode of The L-Tido Podcast, suggested that Sim Dope sounded like a track he had nearly released on his debut album, a version of what later became Tito Mboweni. Benza, however, dismissed any suggestion of overlap, instead highlighting the individuality and impact of both artists on the South African music scene. “You guys are two different types of artists. SA did best by having you two around at the Same Damn Time. We all benefited,” Benza added.
