The Qwellers collective recently held their much-anticipated Qwellerfontein event at Carfax in Newtown, Johannesburg. The event drew a strong crowd and featured performances from several notable artists including headliners Nadia Nakai, DJ Speedsta, 031Choppa, Toss, and members of The Qwellers themselves. Among the performers were K.Keed and Touchline, who both made appearances during the night.

In the past three months, some social media users have speculated that The Qwellers have “fallen off,” suggesting a decline in relevance or momentum. However, members of the collective and artists closely affiliated with them have publicly responded to these claims, asserting that The Qwellers are not only active but thriving in their own lane.

Blue Pappi, a member of The Qwellers, addressed the recent comments during the Qwellerfontein event. He said, “Falling off to me is not a thing ’cause I don’t make music to trend, I make music to relate and a lot of people are relating to my music, I have a thousands and thousands and thousands and thousands of people listening to me a month.”

He went on to emphasize that his career is just beginning, stating, “I came into the game this past year, I’m one year into the game, I haven’t even started yet, all of us, we’re holding back.”

Touchline, who also attended the event and has previously worked closely with members of The Qwellers, spoke on the current trajectory of the group. “The guys have pretty much been in the game for the last two years, it’s too early to call a person’s fall-off but besides that, everybody needs time to do their thing, to grow for the audience to understand them and I think the guys are on a good trajectory.”

He added, “I’ve only got positive thing to say about the guys, they’ve kinda revived this spot of ours, they’ve given the young people more confidence because they relate to them, they’re also very young.”

K.Keed, who performed at the event, also responded to the online chatter. “They’ve never ever fallen off, they’re leading the way right now, I’m proud of them,” she said. She further defended the group’s impact and support system. “F*ck what everybody else says, there’s people outside, these people are there for them so nothing else matters though than music and love for what they have for each other and the chemistry that they have all together, fire I’m proud of it.”

Despite speculation online, the energy at Qwellerfontein and the statements from artists involved point to a collective that remains focused, supported, and active. The Qwellers, according to those in and around their circle, are not in decline but are continuing to build, connect, and evolve.
