Ahead of the release of her debut album, New Era Sessions, set to drop in early September, Rouge shared the trailer for her upcoming short film of the same name. The film which features entertainment heavyweights like Atandwa & Fikile Kani, Denise Zimba and a debut appearance from Cassius Davids, is a South African first and will premiere on MTV Base channel 322 on DStv, on the 7th of September.
The trailer splices together scenes from the film which captures the story of a young woman on her journey of self-discovery. The production is an immersion into her experiences as she deals with the highs and lows of falling in love, the delight of true friendship and the bitterness of betrayal.
Andrew Mitchley, C.O.O/ Head of A&R at The David Gresham Entertainment Group said, “Never before in South Africa’s music industry have we seen visual content of this quality, executed and delivered so well."
The film stands as testament to Rouge’s work ethic and creativity as an all-round artist. In an industry prone to overlooking female rappers, Rouge has created a body of work that will set the bar for all future music projects on the continent.
Here's what she had to say, “I wanted to give listeners and viewers something different, something memorable… and also perhaps, an insight into what motivates me, what drives my narrative and my music. I really hope my fans enjoy it and it connects them to my message and through that, me to them. An artist is defined by her fans, and I am grateful for - and blessed by - their love and support."
Well then, see you on debut night! Don't forget the popcorn!
