How Pretoria Hip-Hop’s Old And New Generations United

By @AtlehangMoloi on 08/15/2024 in Features

When it comes to South African Hip-Hop, no city has gotten it right like Pretoria where the new and old generations work together almost seamlessly.

Hearing Jay Jody and Blaklez in one song is not a novel idea.

But things haven’t always been this way. In our sit-down with PTA Hip-Hop pioneer N’Veigh for ‘What A Life podcast’, he broke down how the new school and old school started working together in perfect harmony:

“Blaklez approached them [B3nchMarQ] at a gig and said, ‘Listen, lil niggas, do you have a problem?’ And they were like, ‘No, we don’t, do you guys have a problem?’

‘Then why is this friction happening?’

I wasn’t there that day, but they chopped it up and that’s when everything started building up nicely.”
