The Riky Rick Foundation recently announced on social media that they are teaming up with South African artists to advocate for government action on mental health.
In a video clip featuring some of our favourite musicians and friends of the late Riky Rick, including his partner, Bianca Naidoo, the foundation delivered a message aimed directly at the country's leaders.
Stating: "To our Leaders, The current budget allocated to mental health is ONLY 2%, the stats paint a scary picture for us where 75% of South African’s don’t get to seek the help they need for mental health. An increase in public spend will go a long way in providing more access to mental health."
Established in remembrance of Riky Rick, who died of suicide, the foundation aims to raise awareness and address mental health issues impacting individuals across the nation.
Also drawing inspiration from Riky Rick's track 'Stronger', the foundation emphasised the importance of prioritising mental well-being. They called upon government officials to heed their plea and allocate more resources to public mental health initiatives, thereby enabling greater access to essential services for those in need.
