In 2023, South African music emerged as a dominant force, spearheaded by Amapiano and the Afro-Tech scene. Leading this groundbreaking wave are three exceptional artists – Uncle Waffles, DJ Kent, and Dlala Thukzin – who have elevated the global presence of South African music.

Uncle Waffles, the rising star from Eswatini, who rose to fame in South Africa during lockdown period, has not only dropped a trilogy of projects but has also graced the world's biggest stages, solidifying her status as a beacon of innovation in the global Afro music scene. Her lead single, "Yahyuppiyah," from the sophomore EP "Asylum," attests to her dedication to consistently delivering quality work, hence it was selected in the Top 10, in Rolling Stones 40 best Afropop songs of 2023, this is yet another groundbreaking achievement by the young star as she continues to pave the way for other African artist to come.




DJ Kent, one of the original maestros of South African house music, staged a triumphant return with "Horns in the Sun" in 2022, which is a great testament to his music evolution and career. The remix, a collaborative masterpiece with Mörda, Brenden Praise, and Thakzin, injected the track with the pulsating beats of 3-step, a fusion of Afro tech and amapiano. DJ Kent didn't just adapt his music, he architected the sonic future of Afropop, positioning himself as a pivotal architect of its ongoing renaissance and his remixed placed him at No.33 on the Rolling Stones list.

Dlala Thukzin, who was placed at No.27 is renowned for making some of the best Afro house, Afro-Tech, and gqom, emerges as a key figure in shaping the trajectory of South African music. His track "iPlan" not only exemplifies the intricate production style of Afro-Tech but also underscores the genre's global appeal by incoporating isiZulu vocals resonating far beyond national borders.

Together, Uncle Waffles, DJ Kent, and Dlala Thukzin stand as pioneers, pushing the boundaries of Amapiano and Afro-Tech. Their achievements not only celebrate the rich musical heritage of South Africa but also solidify its position as a global powerhouse, influencing and reshaping the landscape of contemporary music in 2023.
