By @MasechabaKganyapa on 11/19/2023 in Article

On Saturday evening, SAMA29 finally took place at the SunBet Arena at Time Square, Menlyn Maine.

Amapiano star, Kabza De Small was the biggest winner at the 29th South African Music Awards (SAMAs) last night for ‘Best Duo/Group of the Year’ alongside DJ Maphorisa; ‘Best Produced Album’; ‘Best Amapiano Album’, and ‘Best Kwaito Album’.

Together with the late AKA for ‘Male Artist of the Year’, 'Best Engineered Album' and 'Best Collaboration'.

This is after K.O. opened up the stage by taking two awards for ‘The Most Streamed Song Of The Year Award’ and 'SAMRO’s Highest Airplay Composer Award’.

Though many of the artists were not around to collect their awards, the likes of DJ Maphorisa, Zakes Bantwini, Sjava, Elaine, Manana also scooped some awards, and the one that stood out for us is the ‘Best Hip-Hop Album’ award by Mashbeatz.

The awards ceremony took place in a last-minute collaboration with the inaugural Africa Fest in Pretoria after the KwaZulu-Natal government pulled out of hosting the event.

DJ Sabby and Nomalanga Shozi were the hosts of the event. Before the main event, they shared fun stuff and got people excited. Hope Mbhele and Thuthuka Mthembu were the hosts for the red carpet.

The ceremony featured performances from the likes of Kabza De Small, Mörda, Blxckie, Loatinover Pounds, Msaki, Alter Ego, 25K, Maglera Doe Boy, Makhadzi, Kamo Mphela and Uncle Waffles to name a few.
