Lookatups has released his debut album titled ‘Son Of Joy’.
'Son Of Joy' is a 10-track oeuvre includes contributions from the likes of SimulationRxps, HENNYBELIT, K.Keed, Baksquiat, KashCPT and Orish.
‘Son Of Joy’ is inspired by Lookatups’ late father who he expressed having deep admiration for. In this project, Lookatups explores themes of life after loss, pain, love, fear, and hope while embracing his Xhosa heritage.
“I enjoy letting people know about where I’m from, about myself, and my culture especially”, Lookatups told Apple Music.
According to the rapper, he began working on the project prior to his father’s passing.
“I’m doing something that is bigger than myself. My father passed away and that’s when I sort of started working on the album. In a way, this was about me realising what a great guy he was, and embracing my Xhosa culture,” he stated.
Lookatups set the tone for the now new body of work with two lead singles, 'Location' and ‘Ungalibali’ featuring SimulationRxps.
