10 Times M.anifest Collaborated With A South African Artist

By @SabeloMkhabela_ on 10/26/2023 in Features

Ghanaian lyricist M.anifest is featured on A-Reece’s new album ‘P2: THE BIG HEARTED BAD GUY’ on two songs. The two rappers’ relationship and collaborations have struck the right chord among fans.

M.anifest’s history with South African artists runs deep. He’s worked with a wide range of SA artists including HHP, ProVerb, Stogie T, Kwesta, Nomisupasta and even MiCasa.

Here is a list of 10 songs where M.anifest featured or was featured by a South African artist.

A-Reece  ft. M.anifest- ‘West African Time’ (2023)

A-Reece and M.anifest show out in this soulful rap joint. With the beat subtle and staying in the background, both rappers drop a long verse each that’s at least 32 bars (we didn’t count) and drop complex rhyme schemes while talking that talk.

A-Reece ft. M.anifest - ‘Champion’ (2023)

Reece and M.anifest do it again towards the end of ‘P2: THE BIG HEARTED BAD GUY’, a section of the album where Reece admitted he shook off the “bad guy” persona for a more light-hearted Reece; the two rappers deliver more raps over another soulful instrumental that’s a bit more upbeat than ‘West African Time’. The result is the same; the song’s a display of impeccable rapping from two of the continent’s greats in celebratory mood. “When I see the man in the mirror, me no run/ I know I'm the one,” M.anifest declares. “Business class boys, that means champagne for breakfast,” raps Reece. What do you know about that?

M.anifest ft. Mi’Casa - ‘Be My Woman’ (2017)

But M.anifest’s collaborations with South African artists extend beyond rappers. In 2017, he collaborated with beloved House/Afro-Pop group MiCasa on the smooth love song ‘Be My Woman’ which combines Hip-Hop and adult contemporary Afro-Fusion seamlessly.

M.anifest ft. Stogie T - ‘Rich People Problems’ (2016)

M.anifest and Stogie T rapped about the problems that come with being moneyed in this laidback trap-leaning song from M.anifest’s ‘Nowhere Cool’ album. Over a combination of 808s and Afrocentric percussion, the two African rap titans each tell you about expensive troubles. “House on the hills, Aburi or Beverly,” M.anifest assures (or wonders?). “Bet you saw is on the telly at the playoffs/ Me and Drake had the same J’s, I’m annoyed,” Stogie T raps. You don’t relate.

‘Cupid’s Crooked Bow’ (ft. Nomisupasta) (2016)

Nomisupasta (Nomsa Mazwai) indulges the listener with her versatile skill set; she opens the song with a spoken word piece and her effortless vocals match the scenario she’s proposing in the hook which complement M.anifest’s relaxed delivery over a cloud of synths and chiming strings.

M.anifest - ‘Believe’ (ft. Kwesta & Mugeez) (2016)

DaKAR was thrown in the deep end over a mid-tempo Afrobeats instrumental and he floated. ‘Believe’, which also features Ghanaian singer Mugeez who blesses the song with a dancehall hook and a verse, is a lively Afro-pop-rap that comes with a crucial piece of advice: “Sometimes you for burn the mosquito coil/ Because dem go chop your face, demo go bite your back.”

ProVerb (ft M.anifest) - ‘Tomorrow Might Never Come’ (2015)

Three years after their first collaboration, Verb and M.anifest did it again, but this time around they were introspective over a mellow instrumental rapping about the precarious nature of life. M.anifest held down the hook and dropped lyrical acrobats alongside a rapper whose wordplay is the slickest around.

Zubz ft. M.anifest - ‘Liberatum’ (2013)

In Zubz’s 2013 album ‘DragonLion_FullCircle’, backed by a key-driven beat with ‘Graduation’ and ‘808s & Heartbreak’-era Kanye West drums, the two lyricists discussed the conundrum of social media which can feel like a prison we just can’t escape; from the distraction it brings to the oversharing it tends to foster. “Found my liberation when I lost my phone in Jozi,” M.anifest concludes his verse.

ProVerb (ft. M.anifest - ‘ProVerbs Manifest’ (2012)

‘ProVerbs Manifest’ is a lyrical rap joint with a 50 Cent-esque hook from ProVerb’s fourth studio album ‘Fourthwrite’. ProVerb described this as “One of my favorite collaborations of all time” in the description of the song’s music video on YouTube. “We literally recorded it the very day I met him and let's just say ProVerbs definitely Manifested that evening.”

HHP - ‘Jigah’ ft. M.anifest (2011)

HHP and M.anifest went back and forth over a bouncy instrumental and took over the streets of Jozi masquerading as African dictators in the song’s memorable music video directed by Makere Thekiso of Callback Dreams Studios. Jabba and M.anifest had great chemistry and this song might just be M.anifest’s best collaboration with a South African artist.
