On Instagram, Nasty C recently shared a heartfelt WhatsApp voice message from his sister, expressing their father's happiness upon hearing the song dedicated to him, titled 'Pops,' in Nasty C's latest album, 'I Love It Here.'
According to his sister's voice note, their father was deeply touched by the song and shed tears while listening to it.
“Wamkhalisa ubaba namhlanje, wajula, waba emotional,” says the sister in the voice note.
She stressed that his joy was so overwhelming that he paused to express, "I'm proud of my son."
Nasty C’s relationship with his father has been healthy over the last few years. In his previous album, ‘Zulu Man With Some Power’, Nasty C dedicated the song ‘Ababulali’ to his father after years of not rapping kindly about him in his early mixtapes.
‘Pops’ is an emotional tribute to Nasty C’s father. The track stands out as a bond between a father and son, highlighting the gratitude, love, and admiration that Nasty C feels for his father.
Nasty C raps endearingly about his father on ‘Pops’:
“You make mistakes like everybody else but you're my dad and you…
You did an amazin' job, sir
You raised a man my dude (You, you)
Ayy, mama had good taste when she picked”
Explaining the song in an interview with Apple Music, Nasty C said:
“This is a song about my father. It’s one of the very few songs where I actually just give my father his flowers and I give him props and I salute him. I’m a man now. I’m a father too, so I understand all the stuff that he had to go through to raise me. I understand that from a kid’s perspective, it just looked like he was having his way and carrying a lot of things on his plate. It wasn’t easy. I’ve had so many stepmothers in my life, so now when I think about that, it’s quite sad. You know what that means? He was trying to give us a mother, a mother figure in the house that many times.”
