After weeks of teasing, Loki has finally released the highly anticipated music video for his latest single, ‘Tough Love’.
In the song, Loki delves into the difficulties endured in romantic relationships. He then depicts the prominent theme of deception in the song through its visuals.
The music video begins with Loki amongst his partners in crime on a prison line-up. The irony lies between the group of men who are singing about “hardships” (in love) then finding themselves in a difficult situation in literal form.
The music video for ‘Tough Love’ makes use of a dark colour scheme to emphasise on the overall theme of deception, which is seen through the criminal activities portrayed, as well as the female figure who is not really who she appears to be. The intensity of the storyline is accentuated by the use of these dark colours.
Loki narrates the story from a contrasting setting filled with vibrant colours and a floral background. This scene aligns with the aesthetic of the cover art for the single.
The love-making scene represents a brief pause in the story where Loki’s character appears to be living in a fantasy of no consequence. It showcases a perfect relationship which contrasts what the song is about and interrupts the initial plot of the storyline.
The love-making scene comprises dreamlike bloom effects that could represent Loki being lost in a dream as he is detached from the realities of his life.
