Tebogo Phakela, known to the masses as Tete has dropped his debut album titled, ‘Bra God’.
The album is a 15 track album which features a number of artists including award winning songstress Zanda Zakuza, dance and electronic musical artists Earful Soul as well as Leko M who dominates the album.
These creatives who form part of the creation of this masterpiece come from different genres and backgrounds of music which brings about a mix of diversity, raw culture and resonance between the music and the audience.
One of the producers on the album is well known Electronic music producers Thakzin.
The album includes singles such as ‘Siyaphela’, which was the first single to receive support from radio station across South Africa, followed by ‘Frostan’ which was released on the 31 st March.
‘Bra God’ takes one on a journey through its well thought through track listing.
“Making 'Bra God', firstly, it is a different sound I’m debuting and it is filled with stories of where I come from being, - Hillbrow and Joburg central, what I’ve had to survive and seeing wrong things at a young age that I shouldn’t have seen. Putting together this album in the back of my mind are people who can relate to my story and need a friend through music,” said Tete about the album.
“There’s about 5 tracks dedicated to the ladies in this album, I’d like them to listen to ‘Siyaphela’ among the five which addresses their issues of Gender Based Violence in the list of many. However most of the songs and my focus when creating was to speak to the gents and say a few things through songs, I really hope they listen to this body of work which is aAfroFunk sound and for the ghetto eKasi,” says Tete.
This body of work consists of a lot of keys, strong baselines and lyrics.
It is a kind of masterpiece that an ordinary guy chilling at the corner eKasi trying to figure out their day and life. Tete fishes out at least four songs in this album which he says are his go to for a first time listener.
