Pioneering Durban rapper Abdus is dropping a new single this Friday, titled ‘#OOMF’.
“‘#OOMF’ is basically an introduction of the 'new energy' so to speak, in the industry that is full of Rap/Hip-Hop songs which are melody-based. I wanted to invoke that feeling of ‘I want to break windows and throw chairs’; the ‘I'm invincible’ feeling when you play it but at the same time making sense, not just bars. This is the way I want my Rap/Hip-Hop served as it was served to me by those before us. This is also a different perspective for those who are not exposed to this kind of vibe.”
The description above makes sense for Abdus who built a name for himself in the SA Hip-Hop scene in the 2000s. He was a force of nature known for his punchline-heavy Zulu street raps that won him The Best Lyricist Award at the HYPE Awards in 2009.
Abdus has dropped a few singles here and there but he remained silent for most of the 2010s. He dropped a few singles a few years ago. Hopefully more new music comes from him this year and in future.
