De Mthuda And Da Muziqal Chef Tap Into South African TV Nostalgia In Rollout For ‘Sgudi Snyc’ EP

By @SeptemberEleven on 05/06/2023 in News

Amapiano producers De Mthuda and Da Muziqal Chef are dropping a joint EP titled ‘Sgudi Snyc’ soon. The title is, of course, taken from the popular 90s’ SABC sitcom ‘Sgudi Snaysi’ which starred the late Joe Mafela, playing the deceitful character, Sdumo.

In the rollout for the EP, De Mthuda and Da Muziqal Chef tap into the show. They role-play some of the show’s characters in the visuals that are used to tease music from the project.

The rollout is impressive; from the costumes to the art direction, as Sis May’s coloutul kitchen with 90s’ style furniture and decoration is brought back to life. In the latest clip shared by the producer duo, a skit of debt collector LaQhasha (played by Da Muziqal Chef) asking to break Sdumo  (played by Sipho Magudulela)’s leg with a plank for a R35 debt (sounds familiar?).

The title track, which has been teased since last week, features vocalist Eemoh and makes reference to the show’s title and catchphrase in the hook.

No release date has been shared for ‘Sgudi Snyc’ EP, but it’s likely out soon. It’s been almost a year since both producers dropped full-length releases.

Update, May 8: An earlier version of this article mistakenly confused Eemoh for Sir Trill.
