Interview: Sandrahhh On Her Latest Single Pack ‘keep the peace’, Future Plans, Dream collaborations + More

By @OfentsePhukubye on 03/16/2023 in Interview

Sandrahhh recently dropped her two-track single pack titled ‘keep the peace’, a follow-up to her 2022 tape ‘Eating Good’.

Born in 1997, Sandrahhh was born in Kenya, but moved to South Africa in early 2002. In school, she participated in musical extra mural activities such as piano lessons and singing in the choir. This refined her ear in music and sharpened her smoothening singing voice.

Though Sandrahhh first entered the music scene as a rapper and intends to continue pushing that, she balances it out with singing which carries her latest EP, ‘keep the peace’.

In the interview below, Sandrahhh unpacks the vision behind the tape, her journey as an artist and more.

How did you fall in love with music?

I think just being able to relate to something from a point of view where I do not know the person who made the music but what they are saying is speaking to me and in so many ways with so many different emotions. That’s why I fell in love with music because it’s something that speaks to me on a level that feels beyond human.

You’re mainly known for your rap music but with your latest release you gave us a bit of blues, what inspired that?

I think my favourite thing about my artistry is that I like to showcase my range, so I am a singer first, so it just felt right trying something different to go back to what I originally set out to do which is sing.

You recorded the songs about a year to two years ago, why release them now?

Because music is timeless, and I believe that messages don’t expire. There is something in the songs that maybe someone might need to hear, and I might need to hear, and it’s relevant to that time, just as long as it eventually outlives me then I am good.

What’s the one thing that you want listeners to take away from the single pack?

I would like for them to get into their feelings and for them to immerse themselves in their heartbreak as well as in their wins and celebrations so ‘keep the peace’ is more or less like a mixture of heartbreak and victory as those are two prominent emotions that I am feeling now, and I would like for people to experience them with me.

Musically, what’s next?

I just signed a distribution deal with SOLDistro, so shoutout to SlikourOnLife. I am hoping to get into studio and collaborate with new artists. I really want to expand my range in terms of who I am working with and who I am in studio with. Just more fire music.

When people think of Sandrahhh, what’s the one thing that you wish for them to think and feel?

I want them to feel genuine like authentic and fun. I want them to also stay true to themselves.
