Q&A: @Manu_WorldStar To Break His 2-Year Hiatus In 2023

By @OfentsePhukubye on 01/17/2023 in Interview

Manu WorldStar has been on a two-year hiatus since the release of ‘Short Story’, his 2021 collaborative single with Gemini Major. After the single, Manu WorldSar left both the label Punchline Media and management, Sony. The rapper and singer, however, promises 2023 will be different as he plans to make a comeback after having ironed out some issues he felt were affecting him.

In the interview below, Manu WorldStar chats to SlikourOnLife about his hiatus, leaving Punchline, finding a new team and his plans for the year.

What lead to your two year hiatus from music?

A couple of things led to me going away for a while. I realised that I had to restructure everything around me. I felt like there was a certain “confusion” around where I need to be placed. How I need to be pushed. Who I needed to be pushed with. I also needed time to accept and digest the mistakes I made in the past that landed me where I am today. I can say that now I am ready to release again.

Why did you and the Punchline team part ways?

It really is not anything personal. In fact, I had a long chat with Shingai about this. It broke my heart but I had to do it. In order for me to find myself again. I had to completely lock myself up and be away from everyone and everything. That’s what I knew I needed to do. I needed to choose me for once.

Did the parting affect your relationship with fellow members such as Luna Florentino, Tony X etc?

I can’t lie, I feel like it has affected my relationship with the rest of the brus. Myself and Luna have managed to keep our relationship going, you know. I mean, I met Luna first and we clicked because of our ambition and that hasn’t changed. Also some of us stayed and some didn’t.  That will obviously cause some form of “loyalty” play around us. Nonetheless, I respect everyone equally. I just have found a new path I gotta take.

How was the process of finding yourself a new team?

The process is still ongoing. But it took me two years to restructure. I have a new recording label (more details about that soon). I have an internal management team and a new international distribution partner which I will reveal real soon. Exciting times ahead.

Can we expect new music from you this year?

Yes! New music all year. We start in the first quarter.  It’s my season now!

Side note : When we have that sit down I’m coming in hot. I need to say some stuff a few people in this industry need to hear. No more Mr nice guy.
