@OriginalJayJody Drops Visuals For 'Quincy Jones Freestyle'

By @OfentsePhukubye on 01/08/2023 in Music Video

Jay Jody has been hard at work as 2022 was just the starting line for him as a solo artist. He gifted us music that will live forever as each release is what I would define as a 'masterpiece' as he lacked nothing in relatability and he told his story in the rawest form possible. This is reflected in his last drop of 2022, 'Quincy Jones Freestyle' as he closed off the year with an ode to the industry that he will be creating more 'artistic records' in the forthcoming years and he will not 'sleep on the job' as he is doing it for more than just his family but for the kids out there that are trying to find motivation in music so that they can chase their dreams as music is art and art is therapy.

The freestyle came as a surprise to many as he never really announced that he would be dropping visuals on Sunday if anything he did great as it is one single that many needed to hear before they could start off the new year. It is not only a confidence booster but then a motivator to go after what's yours. 2023 is a year were we all shoot for the stars as anything is possible at this point as long as you believe in yourself and your dreams. Close out the outside noise and just do you in everything that you engage into.

When asked on what evoked the making of the freestyle Jay Jody shared, "What led me to making “Quincy Jones Freestyle” was just pure inspiration really. I was already in studio working , taking smoke breaks & all. So during one particular smoke break , I was chilling with Reece watching music videos on YouTube. One record played which reminded me of a joint Tkay 10Staxx had sent to me but it was not complete, it was titled, “Micheal Jackson”, he produced it too.  I immediately knew what to do with it so I hit him up and asked him what he was planning to do with that record … pretty much kinda telling him to pass the joint to me. He ain’t even make me sweat for it. He just me the beat and I went back to studio immediately. One of my quickest recordings as well. "

He further spoke on how Quincy Jones has inspired him in life, "I think Quincy Jones has inspired a lot of musicians , including myself of course.  I’m more inspired by his musical intelligence. He’s behind such timeless records. So that makes him immortal in a way."

Quincy Jones played a pretty vital role into Jay Jody's career as he titled the song after him when asked about the tiled he said, "It’s what his name represents. The weight of his name. Cause we all know what he contributed and it will live forever. I want my name to be that heavy as well one day."

He further opened up on the concept of the video and if whether it was achieved, the style he approached was of a "Mini doccie style. With some Easter eggs and symbolism here and there. And yes, I achieved what I planned." This was a unique concept as he took us to a circus and were graced by the appearance of his daughter in the background.

With the release of the visuals, we got to see a different side of Jay Jody as he fulfilled the role of a director and editor. This is barely seen with artists as most artists would prefer paying for the service so we asked him if we could expect more visual work by him in these role and he said, "Absolutely. I love film & filmmaking. Maybe one day I’ll direct, act and edit a short film."

He further expanded on the shooting experience and if whether he would ever suggest video editing and directing to other artists, "I’d suggest it to artists that have a passion for it. That’s the only way it can be done right. The experience was really dope for me, I’m a very visual guy. So when it comes to this. I’m always excited to put in work."

The freestyle was without a doubt a visual piece that many needed to start their year with as you will be left both inspired and happy as you are taken on a sneak peak journey into Jay Jody's life. I can't wait to see and hear the art he has to offer to the world this year.
