Recap: @AmstelSA Presents #FriendsOfAmstelSA Headlined By @temsbaby Was Spectacular

By @OfentsePhukubye on 12/12/2022 in News

Friends of Amstel made its remarkable return this past weekend with an invite-only event hosted at a private location in the heart of Pretoria. The event was headlined by Nigerian Superstar Tems supported by amazing South African acts such as K.O, Kamo Mphela, Young Stunna, AKA and many more.

Attendees met at Supersport Park in Centurion and then transported by allocated shuttles to the venue where we all entered hassle free thanks to queue-free entry. We were gifted with food and drink coupons alongside coupons for dessert and water. Essentially everything was on the house.

DJ Zinhle and her husband, Murdah Bongz from Black Motion opened the event, and were followed by acts such as DBN Gogo and Njelic, Kid Fonque and Julian Gomes among others.

Kamo Mphela hopped on stage with high energy and danced her legs off. She was followed by 'Lyf Styl' hitmaker, Aymos, before K.O made an eccentric entrance, performing some classics and then closed off his set in style with his mega hit 'SETE' with Young Stunna. He was followed by AKA who closed his set with the platinum-selling single, 'Lemons (Lemonade)'.

Scorpion Kings took over the stage with their long list of heavy hits that warmed up the dance floor. Samthing Soweto delivered a heart-warming performance that led to some shedding tears as he performed his hit singles such as 'Akulaleki' and 'Amagents'. Samthing Soweto was followed by Mlindo The Vocalist who opened with Riky Rick’s single 'You and I' on which he’s featured.

Each performer gave their all and set the tone for a hot performance by Tems. Her set consisted of hits such as 'Looku Looku’, 'Fountains' and ‘Essence’. She extended her set with classics from her debut album 'For Broken Ears' and finally closed it off with 'Free Minds' which saw the crowd singing their lungs out and shed some tears. She was supported by Kelly Rowland who was jamming to her music during the set next to the stage.

Overall, it was a spectacular event; the food was filling and the drinks kept flowing. Water was available throughout and security was tight. I am looking forward to many more as it is one of many well-executed events from the production to the sets to the stage management as each artist performed right on time.
