The wait is officially over as Sizwe Alakine, formerly known as ‘Reason’ has finally released his long-awaited, first-ever ‘Rapiano’ album titled ‘Alakine World’!
The much-anticipated body of work houses 13 tracks with major artist contributions such as Kabza De Small, Lady Du, DJ Stokie, Gemini Major, Roii and many more talents in the Hip-Hop and Amapiano music scene. Sizwe Alakine successfully blurs the lines between the two genres with this masterpiece, coining the term ‘Rapiano’ which was inspired by SA’s legendary Hip-Hop artist, the late Riky Rick.
Alakine took to his Instagram the stimulating backstory to how the ‘Rapiano’ term came about which resulted to his latest release of what he regards as “the best Rapiano album”, by quoting SA’s music icon, Riky Rick who once said the following:
“Reas…. this thing you’re pushing is dope. I’m not sure what it is because its Rap, and it’s also Piano. So, it’s some sort of RAPIANO thing going on… but I love it!”
And that is how the dubbed term ‘Rapiano’ came into being, summarizing Sizwe Alakine’s creative intention with the new sound.
The release of the highly anticipated project, ‘Alakine World’ is just in time for the festive season with some fan-favourited bangers including ‘Mang Kapa Mang’ featuring Mellow & Sleazy. Sizwe Alakine tells stories that move listeners through poetry and street sound in the distinctive project that doesn’t separate Rap and Amapiano, but instead “sees a combination that brings life to something new, fresh and poetic for the youth of South Africa”.
