Much like the first time the world heard Theo’s voice on the intro of Boom Shaka’s ‘It’s About Time’. Everyone knew, at that moment, they were witnessing the birth of something new.
Born Lindokuhle Dlomo on the 3rd of October 1999, LIINDOR (pronounced “Lindo”) is a rapper, singer and producer whose music sounds like an experience long overdue... progression of modern music. He grew up in his grandmother’s house in Harding; Kwa-Zulu Natal, with his older brother, mother and grandmother. At the time, his mom was studying to become a teacher and his dad was a taxi driver. Life in KZN, as he remembers it, was simple. Almost every speaker in the neighbourhood was blasting West Life. LIINDOR delivers his lyrics predominantly in Zulu and his sound can be described as a mixture of Trap, African R&B and Rap. Inspired by the peak of South African hip-hop in 2014, LIINDOR started making music with his high school friends in 2016 and the rest, as they say, is history.
As the next generation of storytellers emerge, this one is the one you don’t want to overlook. Aged 12, him and his mother and brother moved to Carletonville in Gauteng, where they stayed with his aunt and cousins for the remainder of his primary school years. They then moved to Tembisa, where he’d attend high school.
"Ukushela" is an art. In this melodic Kwaito/Hip-hop song, LIINDOR and his real-life cousin Melanin practice their game. "I swear every time you step in the room, babe you change the mood" Produced by Nicey Beatz, Luvin U is about two gents who express how their crush makes them feel. It can be described as New-age Kwaito, but in today's climate; Hip-Hop, fused with the log drum sound.
