On September 3rd 2021, the award winning rapper, Siyabonga Nene, known professionally as Big Zulu released his 20 tracker debut album titled, 'Ichwane Lenyoka' which was a star-studded body of work that featured Xola, Mduduze Ncube, Kwazi, Cofi, Nhlanhla Mhlongo, Ami Faku, Siya Ntuli, Pro, Samthing Soweto, Lwah Ndlunkulu, Aubrey Qwana, Sjava, Mnqobi Yazo, Zuluboy, Leverage, Riky Rick, Intaba Yase Dubai, Red Button and Touchline.
With a peculiar title that refers to a snake, many were left wondering what the album could actually be about. The vernac rapper has since revealed that the title of his album has a deeper message. Big Zulu uses an analogy of a snake and how it does not fend for its offspring after birth to describe his journey into the music industry- a journey that was solitary and without any form of guidance or support.
According to Spotify SA Hip-Hop on Twitter, Big Zulu's 'Ichwane Lenyonka' has spent 53 consecutive weeks on the 'Spotify Weekly Top Albums' SA chart since its release. Big Zulu joins Nasty C and Blxckie as the only SA Hip Hop artist to achieve this.
