Seasoned Publicist, Content Manager and Aggregator - Prince Masuku joined Ayerz Mabinda on his Hustlers Prayer show on Keith Ngesi Radio where they spoke about his journey in the industry. Some of Prince's career highlights being working with #SAMA21 nominated, gold selling, Afrotainment duo, Zakwe & Duncan to launching the Drip Footwear store in East London and currently distributing the 'Mhluzi' for Flash iKumkani.
Ayerz went on to get Prince's opinion on the new Xhosa Trap wave not doing as well in the commercial market and Prince believes it's due to Xhosa Traditional Media platforms like Umhlobo Wenene and TruFM not being patriotical. Instead they are promoting other genres and music from overseas whilst overlooking their own.
'I've organised interviews for Flash Ikumkani in both platforms but I had to advocate on a higher basis than the other songs, like that he was nominated at #SAHHA21 which helped but on an ordinary day they don't really care for the evolution of Hip Hop within Xhosa culture. I also feel that they are not in touch with the culture on the ground. I would love to see them implement a strategy such as Universal/Def Jam where they have "culture specialists", people that are on the ground looking out for the new wave and not just in Hip Hop but as Xhosa Music in general cause who knows where a new genre might come from. Plus with the arguments that 70% of Durban Gqom is produced by Eastern Cape artists yet we don't receive the credit is hurtful because that means they failed to recognise the talent but KZN did and then reintroduces it to us as theirs where it could have easily been picked up by our platforms if there were witnesses on the ground to attest to the truth of the matter on their behalf.' - says Prince.
