Sportscene 'Put Me On' is an annual competition that seeks to unearth the brightest talent in the country. I love how the competition aims to empower artists with prizes that include a recording agreement with Def Jam, a R50k cash prize, A PR package and more. In this article, we're going to profile the 2 winners of this years Put Me On competition, Priddy Prince and Holy Alpha.
Holy Alpha
Hailing from Cape Town, Holy Alpha AKA Mama Ghost is an energetic rapper with an aggressive flow. Like her co-winner, Holy Alpha has grown a following by dishing out hard-hitting bangers like 'Ghost' and 'Qondile'. Holy Alpha is an emotive rapper and you can feel the intensity in her voice which serves as the 'icing on the cake' to her already aggressive flow. Her most recent release is titled 'Iqhawe' and it brings together everything that makes her a unique talent however the single sees Holy Alpha show great understanding of how and when to be aggressive or melodic to create the perfect single.
Priddy Prince
16-year-old Priddy Prince AKA Lil Giant is the prototypical protege. A young artist that turned just 16 years of age not so long ago has taken the underground scene by storm with raps that sound developed far beyond his age. He has a small sample size of songs that we can look at but songs like 'Jump' show why he is destined for great things. Hard-hitting rap songs with more bounce than necessary are just the surface of his abilities. His most recent release, 'Like Me', sees him offer a more refined and polished sound through melodic raps and it points to his ability to create songs with real single quality.
Ultimately, both artists are young and show great promise to develop into really amazing artists that can carry the genre to great heights in the future. A big thank you to Sportscene's commitment to growing the culture.
