@mlamli 'White Noize' EP Will Leave An Impression On You

By @Lesiba on 11/23/2021 in Projects You Should Hear

I couldn't imagine trying to be a rapper right now. There are literally thousands of artists out there pursuing a career which is why your first impression is crucial. It took about 10 seconds for me to tell that this EP was for me. The production is simple but it's packed with a lot of intensity, and I mean simple in a less is more kinda way. There are many great rappers out there but the real skill lies in being able to invoke emotion from the listener which was what happened on the opening song 'White Noize'. Mlamli and Mercury who? understood that they had to focus on accompanying the production and not 'kill the beat'. 'Interlude 4 You' carries the same sort of intense bass but this time it is surrounded by distant soulful vocals and hi-hats. I enjoyed the rap performances but AV Raincandy presence on the song is what stood out to me at the tail end of the song. I think her verse being last was an intentional decision seeing as the next song features her. At this point of the EP, I'm wondering whether these artists are a group because it seems like every song has slight alterations to suit each artist that is featured. By the time I got to the end of this EP, I appreciated the consistent sound and feel throughout. 'White Noize' has its own unique charm and shows that you can have a consistent sound without every song sounding or feeling the same. The year is almost over so I can confidently say that this is one of the top picks from an up and coming artist from this year.
