Self-taught DJ and producer, Audiomarc gathers some of his friends in the hip hop game to spread some Durban sauce over the ATL genre for his debut offering, "Trap Addict". In his punchy debut, the 7-tracker EP ensemble is a collection of experiences, memories and unspoken desires.
Opening with the dark “Inewza Intro”, the album contains the playful “Jelly Rock” and R&B-driven “Curved”, with Caseklowzed and Tellaman. Giving the ATL genre a uniquely Durban sauce are some of the city’s finest talents. Pdogg Amazing and Skhindi spit Zulu and Durban tsotsitaal raps on “Okay Sharp”; breakout star Blxckie and frontrunner Nasty C offer a robust exchange on “Why Me?”, and CrownedYung alludes to South African rapper Jack Parow’s infamous cap in a cheeky metaphor (“Jack Parrow Cap”). It’s the nature of trap music—largely pompous and not always endearing, just a guarantee of heavy bass laced by convincing characters, as Nasty C does on album closer “Audio Czzle” where he declares, “I’m not one of you regular degular ass n***as, my name ain’t Thabo or Themba”.
