@ASAPSHEMBE & @ProdbyKaeB Joint EP 'Maboteng' Has An Inspiring Message

By @Lesiba on 10/29/2021 in Projects You Should Hear

ASAP Shembe and KaeB recently released their joint EP titled 'Maboteng'. The EP has a pretty unique story that most of South Africans can relate to. The EP sees ASAP Shembe touch on the hardships of growing up in the townships and the struggles that come from being in that sort of environment.

"Our living conditions are hard and rough, like Blade Nzimande’s face”. The Second song ‘Weh Malume’ highlights our responsibility to leave/find a way out of situations or relationships we’ve outgrown. And the final song ‘Maboteng’ seems to say “You chose your outlook, you are in control”.

I think what I enjoy most about the EP, is the way in which they went about sharing this message. The production on the EP is intense and inspiring, despite the subject matter being relatively dark. This EP holds a special place in my heart because it's more than just a collection of songs. 'Maboteng' is about accepting your situation and CHOOSING to make something out of nothing. ASAP Shembe & KaeB didn't allow their upbring to deter them from chasing their dreams and that is something that I will carry with me whenever I listen to 'Maboteng'. Stream it below.
