Tik Tok has been at the forefront of launching music trends on a global scale since the beginning of the Coronavirus pandemic. Where we have seen people use the app to promote their music by creating dance challenges and getting creators involved. Jason Derulo is one case study where he used the platform to rejuvenate his career and lead to him being the most followed celebrity on the platform by creating shareable and relatable content. To bring it even closer to home, we all saw the amount of success Tyla had with her, 'Getting Late' single with it trending globally on the platform and led to her sitting on over 1 million followers.
Def Jam Africa has also taken a lot of interest in building rising star and with a reputation that precedes itself within the music industry and years of experience, contributing to the success of some of our favorite artists such as, Nasty C, Tellaman, Nadia Nakai & Cassper Nyovest to name a few. These creators are definitely in good hard.
One of the things that stands out about this campaign is that, although Tik Tok funded it, the creators will maintain 100% royalty share of the song. The song features Thozi Music, Khanyisa who some might already be familiar with as she recently featured on Mr JazziQ's - Ungangi Bambi, Sphokuhle.N & PD Jokes are also amongst the creators on the single. With the song released on TikTok, as well as all major streaming platforms, a new in-app campaign has been initiated. It consists of a TikTok Sisonke Dance Challenge, and #TikTokSisonke hashtag which features content showcasing the diverse and unique creator community which has come together on TikTok to celebrate their creative expression. The hashtag has already received over 34 million views on the app, with over 28 000 videos created.
