@WandileMusic Releases His Afropop/Afro-Soul Track 'Otherwise'

By @itsmanjobruh on 08/30/2021 in Music

Wandile Mbambeni is an 28 year old soulful singer-songwriter/Producer, guitarist and budding cinematographer.  He is known for his powerful husky unique voice, versatility in sound and story-telling in the way he pens a song.  In a short space of time Wandile has played on many stages in the world, places like Germany, Switzerland, Malawi, DRC to name a few. It was only in 2010 that Wandile decided to teach himself how to play the guitar, it was only in 2019 for the singer-songwriter to share a stage with 6 x Grammy nominated artist Tamia, on her National tour in South Africa. It is his unique and authentic sound that will see Wandile rise to world stages and see him sell an enormous amount of records all over the globe. Wandile is more than a musical artist, he feeds the soul.

Wandile's new single, 'Otherwise' is a song that celebrates the truly authentic South African Afro soul/Afro pop. Wandile Mbambeni worked with Christer Kobedi, producer of Amanda Black's successful 2016 debut Album 'Amazulu' and most recent, Blxckie's 'B4Now' album.

"I wrote the song right after i finished my debut album "Kwakumnandi", it was one of the first songs I wrote after releasing "Kwakumnandi". In a way you could say it was an extension of that album and could actually fit as a 12th track on that project. I sampled and cut up 'Fred 'Hammond's - Please Don't Pass Me By' song to give me a feeling, I started playing the guitar over the cut and the rest was history. I loved the feeling. I ended up removing the sample cuts because of the new feeling the acoustic gives. I wrote the song to portray a quirky funny love that I find so beautiful in my culture, isiXhosa. I love the relationship between humour and truth, something we find so honest sometimes we find very funny. 'Otherwise' is supposed to showcase exactly that, even in the title itself, in South Africa we use 'Otherwise' as slang to ask 'how are you?'. A bit more than that though, we ask 'in respect of all that is going on, how are you?'. The song is about showing interest to the other party, it's a cute, quirky, funny, love song with a heavy afro-soul/afro-pop feel.To complete this record i called up the award-winning producer Christer, who has achieved major success for Amanda Black, Blxckie, Sjava, Ami Faku, A-Reece, Emtee, Nasty C and many more. He added the golden touch to the record, he really made the song come alive and made it the big record it is. Zephbeats was the mixing engineer behind this record, I loved the work he had done for A-Reece and Ayanda Jiya, I had no doubt in my mind that he was the right guy for the job. He did an a great job, the record sounds super clean, everything is balanced. I did tell him 'I love my bass, I need my kicks to punch' and he definitely delivered! The song has a great low end and punch. Rogan Kelsey mastered the song, the cherry on top came with more than just the cherry. He is trusted by many ears, I haven't looked back since I got a Rogan Kelsey master back." - Wandile Mbambeni
