Dj or producer albums always seems to be a great listen. No surprise there, seeing as they have full control of how the project sounds. I'm really impressed that this project has a theme and a special meaning to Xplosiv DJ. The cover art explains what the project is actually about and to quote it, "You have to blindly trust that the path you have chosen is the right one". 'Eyes On Me' is about believing in yourself and your journey. Without reading the cover art, 'Eyes On Me' has a very inspirational feel to it. It's filled with strings, keys and soft-spoken bass lines that make for a rather emotional listen. The nature of the production channelled artists into following suit. The opening song titled 'Heart & Glory' begins with Indigo Stella harmonising which reminds me of the first song I heard by her called North Side. I miss her making these sorts of songs. The combination of Benlay's vocals and his verse gives the song a spiritual feel. The song 'Eyes On Me' is a song you can listen to if you ever feel like you need a reason to keep going. Indigo Stella and Espiquet do a great job of delivering well-written verses that fit in with the theme of the project as well as the production. Soulful Clay and Jvsn give the project another spiritual moment of the project with the presence of their vocals.
The project closes with the deeply personal 'Lately'. Cye delivered a pretty heartwarming story about his friend troubles. It made me look at Cye in a different manner because I had never considered his storytelling ability to be a premier skill in his arsenal. 'Eyes On Me' is a wonderfully produced project that surprised me with the story it told in just 10 minutes.
