@LightYagamiSA Is Way Ahead With 'Feels Like Home'

By @Lesiba on 08/24/2021 in Projects You Should Hear

Lesedi's 'Feels Like Home' is an interesting listen because very rarely do you hear of rap acts that are so deliberate with taking inspiration from home, at least this early in their career. It's usually a move that artists make later in their career after they gained a core fan base and they feel like they're ready to expand. It's for this reason that I was surprised as well as impressed by what Lesedi did on this project.

I don't know if I'm the only one that feels this way but I feel as though artists 'hop on to' African inspired or Afrobeat and expect the audience to love it because it's African. It's almost like there is a total disregard for creativity. There's a copy and paste sort of element. So I want to openly state that I don't enjoy this project because it infuses uniquely South African sounds but because he did it in a unique way. Lesedi gave me a true sonic representation of what it means to be South African to him. I relate to this. There are times when the project leans heavily into kwaito and other times it's a weird mix of South African sounds and Kanye. This project has so many layers and soundscapes that I feel like I would need a couple of weeks to fully digest and appreciate what Lesedi is doing on this project. 'The Walls of Jerico' is a special song that has so much going on I feel like I need to speak to people who studied music so I can get a better understanding of what did on the song.

An artist like Lesedi feels like one of those that would be bigger internationally than they would be locally because of how unique they are. Some songs might be too unique for some people's taste. But isn't that always the case with a genius? No one seems to quite understand at first. Stream 'Feels Like Home' Below.
