@Earldridge Proves To Be A Unique Talent On 'Prologue'

By @Lesiba on 08/23/2021 in Projects You Should Hear

Earldridge is someone that recently got recommended to me and I was blown away by how beautiful the EP was. I'm a sucker for alternative artists but this is one of those pieces of work that are objectively good, irrespective of what genre of music you enjoy.

The opening two songs on the EP titled 'Eazy' and 'Delight' have a warm sort of feeling to them and they feel 'full'. The production on 'Delight' is different from 'Eazy' but something about 'Delight' makes it feel like a continuation from 'Eazy'. The two songs feel cohesive, which is something he does throughout the EP. The two songs touch on the 'happier' side of love but that all takes a turn on 'Railway Blues'.

The production on 'Railway Blues' is stripped back in contrast to the 'full' production that we got on the first two songs. I really love how he mainly used his voice as an instrument. He kind of said everything without saying anything. You just feel what he is trying to say to you and then he transitions seamlessly into 'Fools Gold'. This time he brings words to the feelings he was expressing on 'Railway Blues'. These two songs are kind of a 'pit stop' on the EP with their more stripped-down production and I really connected with him on 'Broke' when he said, "I treat my time like a check. So I be watching who I invest in". As amazing as he's been throughout this EP, I think Earldridge was at his best on 'To You'. The song showcases his ability to create music that can appeal to the greater South African audience, but the most important thing is he stays true to himself, and the EP, by still incorporating elements that stick with the overall sound of 'Prologue'. Ultimately that's how I can sum up Earldridge on the EP. An extremely unique talent that has all of the capabilities to bring a different sound to the commercial market. Stream 'Prologue' below.
