South African streetwear brand Butan is known for its roots in hip hop, having built its name with acts such as Proverb, Kwesta, Driemanskap, Gigi Lamayne and events like Back To The City. In 2020 the brand seeks to rediscover those roots with the burgeoning new wave of SA hip hop artists. Believing in telling stories and remaining true to hip hop, Butan has partnered with Vault Radio to amplify the experience and voice of the independent hip hop community in South Africa.
Vault Radio, a brand founded by designer Tebogo Mahange (@tebogomshange) and Tshego Mosupye Koke of MTV Base whose also a hip hop artist himself have been giving the lesser known indie hip hop artists a platform to be heard. From Tshego’s Instagram (@tshegokoke) he’s gone live every Saturday at 8pm since 20 June this year, sharing tracks from artists around the country with the Vault Radio community.
What began as a unisex streetwear brand birthed a platform that is known as Vault Radio which now hosts “listening sessions” for submitted music which never reaches radio. Vault Clothing Company (@vaultclothing.company) is a multi-dimensional brand that produces music, design and creative direction. Products from the brand undertake to recreate and reimagine that which inspires into something new.
Saturday, 05 September tune in to Vault Radio at 20h00 via Tshego Koke’s (@tshegokoke) Instagram live as we’ll reveal what’s in store for you with this exciting collaboration. Don’t sleep and TUNE IN!
