Since we all gonna be working from home for a good 21 days due to the national shutdown, music is what will keep us going during these tough quarantine times. How refreshing will it be when you switch on your radio and all you hear is local music from the hottest mainstream and new wave musicians? This will give many people to explore and discover artists that they never knew existed and might turn into instant fans from just that one radio spin. Music producer, musical director, songwriter and vocal coach RJ Benjamin came out to social media writing out to all South African radio stations regarding playing local music, and not just from big artists. Do you believe that it is the best time for radio hosts, station producers & managers to shift that direction for this short period of time? I’d like to call on all SA radio stations to play strictly local artists during this lockdown. Not just the “BIG” artists but the artists who have created quality material and still didn’t get playlisted. SA artists need your help beyond this difficult period and you have the ability to provide some form of royalty income for artists when Covid-19 subsides. By doing this you will also be showing solidarity with your fellow South Africans.
