A SNEAKA Walk In The Normal Day & Life of @akaworldwide With @scoopmakhathini

By @Nokulunga_Maqubela on 01/23/2020 in CATCHING WAVES

If we are to look back to the passed decade and really think about South African hip hop influence in music and the culture at large, there is one name that stays at the top of mind. You can date it back from Entity, or being the first recipient of the 'New Comer of the Year' Hype award. Absolutely nobody saw it coming that an English rapper would rule the South African hip hop game, but then again, they should have used binoculars. It's been a SUPA MEGA decade, and as we step into a brand new one, it was only right that Scoop Makhathini catches the first wave with AKA.

"You can never be the new kid on the block twice."

Needing absolutely no introduction, AKA, real name Kiernan Forbes is a highly successful musician in South Africa. Making strides in a niche most would have doubted. He had one plan and one plan only, and it totally worked out for him. Away from the crowds and lights, in his normal life, AKA is found either at the car wash or grocery shopping (yes, he does his own groceries). Stepping into this world, Scoop is firstly gifted with the exclusive SNEAKA, and man, they are a perfect fit, well complimenting his drip. From there on, he proper handles AKA's first interview in shorts. Going into it, Kiernan speaks of the significance of his partnership and collaboration with Reebok, being the first South African artist to do this. Coining some of the most used terms that have stuck, AKA breaks down how the words "Supa Mega" and "Unlocked" came about.

"I'm everything that you hate, but you love everything that I make."

Throughout the years, many have had their differences with the musician, however, when it came to the music, they all took to one side, 'cause when it hits you, you know. AKA speaks on how the best music is layered, and that's exactly what he does with his music too, making music that will last. Furthermore, he reveals how he wants to do something completely unrelated to music, and mentions how Nasty C is gonna take the game further that he ever could. Shuu! Step into the life of Kiernan Forbes with Scoop Makhathini on episode 12 of Catching Waves below;
