I watched an interview with Kabomo once, and he said the reason a debut album is always the musician's gem and is always the most successful is because when you make your first album, you base it on your entire life. If you are making it at the age of 25, that's 25 years of experience and your life in the project. But your second, third, and fourth will only be based on about two years or less, depending on when you want to release, the pressure still stays on your neck, and that's little to base anything on. However, in life, there are certain stages when one needs re-invention. As much as we are born when our mothers give birth to us, we are also born on a daily as we go through life and sometimes, it's necessary that we are constantly re-inventing ourselves whether to better ourselves or just to cleanse the old and move to a better way of living, having learned from the past.
Gigi Lamayne has been in the music industry for a long time now, we've watched her grow in it as much as we've watched her go through it. With five projects under her name, her sixth one feels like her first one. Not because she's releasing it under her own label, we don't take this achievement away from her, but because of her ability to re-invent herself, coming out triumphant and victorious in all the odds that were stacked against her. Bouncing back, she is not just a better human being, but a better woman, setting an example all while sharing her story so that those that come after her are aware of the risks and take caution.
Inspired by the book of Job in the bible as she was in hospital fighting for her life after she had attempted taking it, as well as seeing the nay-sayers who had wriiten off Tiger Woods before he had won the Masters Tournament. Gigi made Job Woods. In 10-tracks, she takes us through how she came from feeling like a "casualty" to her current state of mind. With features from Zakwe, Kwesta, the "Full Clip" square, YoungstaCPT, 25K, and Eminent Fam, Gigi unleashes bars, soul and her life after re-invention on her new offering. Listen below;
