A debut album can be the scariest yet most exciting process for an artist, especially when the project has been long anticipated. The pressure builds up, but what needs to done has to be done, and the work eventually comes out. An introduction to yourself as an artist, you let people into your sacred space and give them the freedom to form their own opinions over the work that is yours. But this happens only when you've first told your story in your own way. In the same manner, "Accordin To Jim" is born, and we're just a step closer to the door leading into Jimmy Wiz' world and life.
Dropping on the 30th of July, Jimmy Wiz shares his journey and inspirations on the brief letter below. Telling his story my way would be an injustice, so Jimmy does it his way:
A Letter From Jimmy Wiz
My Music Journey began at an early age, Son of a Jazz lover and a Lil’ Brother to two of the best emcees I knew growing up. How was I not going to turn into the very individual I am today? Impossible, right? Accordin’ To Jim is my life in 9 songs, all produced by SPDubb Beats. This Debut Album is the perfect amalgamation of Son, Brother, and Musician, in a Nutshell everything I embody. Growing up, I found it difficult accepting myself for who I am...going from the skinny Kid, to the fat boy. A huge adjustment I wasn't taking well. I became the Fat Kid whom people made fun of, girls never took notice of. To remedy the pain, I found myself writing poems. Riding along with my father to his Jazz festivals and later falling in love with a Genre that took the very same Jazz songs my father listened to, and turned them into something so beautiful.
My Love for hip hop was born. Accordin’ To Jim, tells MY story. The story of a fat Kid who found confidence in Writing rhymes. I often saw myself as a superhero and my power was words. Through words I could heal or make someone smile. And so this became the very path I stuck too. Even in my most heart aching moments, when speaking became hard, the pen became my mouth piece. Accordin’ To Jim is not just an album, but an audio biography of my life experiences, thoughts and feelings. I Hope when listening to this album, you relate to each song. Relate to the fact that I’m also human, and you find comfort in knowing that in each struggle, or upward battle you face, you are not alone. Yours sincerely,
P.S ACCORDIN’ TO JIM 30 JULY Yours Truly Jimmy Wiz
